IN
MEMORY OF SIMBA:
About
6 weeks ago I lost my 9-year-old precious husky. I can't even explain how
much pain I feel and how much I miss him. Some days are easier than others,
but the
littlest things remind me of him. He was everything to me.
I live
in Lutz, Florida, right outside of Tampa. Simba was playing in the backyard
like he usually does, and he started to go after something (he always chases
the little lizards, so at first I didn't think much of it). Once I realized
that it was something bigger, I tried to stop him and called my husband.
It was a cottonmouth snake. By the time we got to him, he was already bit.
He was in so much pain. It was a Sunday evening so our regular vet was
closed. We immediately rushed him down to Florida Veterinary Specialists.
My husband was able to kill and catch the snake so we could bring it with
us for positive identification. They started to examine him and he was
just screaming. It was so heartbreaking. They found that he was bit multiple
times on the face. They administered the anti-venom and said he would require
several days of hospitalization and they couldn't guarantee he would be
the same. This type of snake can cause blood vessels to shut down and possibly
cause paralysis. They sent us home and said the next 24 hours were crucial.
We called several times that night to check on him and that said he was
still receiving the anti-venom. About 5:30 a.m., we received a call that
he arrested.
I just don't know how this happened. I miss him so much. He was so healthy and so active
