IN MEMORY OF Asia:

Many of you are familiar with the photo below of Asia from the poster that we use at our many fund raisers. We have used this photo to show what we as a rescue can accomplish with the aid of the donations we receive, and as a reminder that each and every husky that comes to us is special and deserves our help.
Asia was one of those fortunate Huskies who came into the rescue 4 ½ years ago after a Good Samaritan found her wandering in the projects in Miami. When our volunteers went to pick her up, it was not easy to identify her as a husky, but her lovely eyes gave her away.
My husband and I received an email with her photo and decided that we would like to be the ones to make her life whole again. We adopted her immediately, and the day we brought her home was one of the happiest in our lives. We saw the sweet, loving, magnificent animal she was despite her miserable condition, and were overwhelmed by what we knew to be her potential. As you all know, she did not disappoint and surpassed all of our fondest hopes and wishes.
Linda and Bill came over the same evening to help us settle in with her and give us any pointers we would need for her care. Having never owned a husky before, the rescue was there for us every step of the way, and we are so thankful to all of you and to Asia for teaching us that huskies are indeed a very exceptional breed.
Asia passed away July 21, 2007 after complications from liver cancer. Although we have a huge hole in our hearts, we know that she has left a legacy. Her before and after picture has successfully tugged at so many heart strings and was responsible for many donations to the rescue and hopefully many more to come. In addition, her story inspired many to adopt some of our more difficult cases because they could see what a little TLC can do.
Asia was only the beginning because she taught us that beauty is more than what is on the outside. She is the reason why we have worked as volunteers with SFSHR for the past 4 years so that we could help raise money and find homes for these remarkable dogs. The work is sometimes staggering, but we know that what this rescue does is miraculous, even though the funds are difficult to come by, and the bills sometimes are a little late being paid. It is because of the generosity of all of you, whether it is in time or money, that we are the best rescue in the state.
Thank you, our beautiful Asia, for being the inspiration you were, and still are, and thank you SFSHR for embracing such a worthwhile mission.
John & Sharon
